Adjusting to Covid, creating a new range & our small Irish business loves!

WOW - What a strange time we find ourselves in!

Like everybody else we found ourselves trying to get to grips with all the new changes back

in March of this year.

MAKA Ceramics - Marz & Karen - working through Covid lockdown

We found ourselves having to explore whats next for MAKA, trying to figure out how do we adapt and grow as a small Irish Pottery business while both of us working from two different studios 130 kms apart.

Thankfully, Covid gave us some time to sit back and reflect on everything we have achieved

since setting up back in 2017 with our little dream of making and designing together.

One of the things that makes us unique is our strong desire to be changeable with our style - we never want to sit on any one style for too long, we want to keep on exploring new ideas, products and designs.

The last few months gave us the space we need to go back to basics; sketching and designing. We really enjoyed it!

We’ve worked so hard the last few months making prototypes of our new range - tableware that bursts with energy.

A combination of strong confident mark making with bold vivid colours; Its time to be brave!

We have really loved all your feed back as we shared with you our creations at different stages of the process. We take on board the feedback we receive as designers/makers, the most important element for us is that our products are used and loved by you.

We have so much in the pipeline for our online store we really cant wait to show you all. Keep an eye on our Instagram stories and our newsletters so you never miss out.

We’re constantly working behind the scenes on our website trying to create what we think you guys would love to see.

As makers & designers in the Irish craft industry we will do our very best to keep this

beautiful craft alive and as always thank you all so much for your support!

Now more then ever it's so important to shop local & buy Irish!

With that, we want to share with you some of our favorite small Irish Businesses, this is only a small list for now as we love so many but we will list more another time:

Jump The Hedges - fabulous stash bags, yoga bags & bum bags all made from repurposed truck tarps! We love our sustainable products & happen to a very stylish fanny bag each!

Drift Knits - Unbelievably cool chunky hand knit wool snoods and scarves! Marz adores hers & lives in it most of the year - the bright orange urban snood - looove!

Tinnock Farm - beautifully made natural soaps & hand-poured soy wax candles. Karen loves their soaps!

Oxmantown Skincare - love pretty much all their products and have used nearly all of them at this stage - natural, cruelty free & eco-friendly skincare - bonus no plastic packaging!

Kotanical - huge selection of gorgeous cruelty free essential oils and love that they take back and reuse the bottles! Favourite is the High Altitude Lavender, very dreamy & even the name sounds very fancy!

Kaiko Studio - Super stylish concrete lighting , home accessories & jewellery. We both have a number of Kaiko's concrete pieces decorating our homes that we picked up over the years!

Wild Bird Studio - Stunning geometric glass terrariums & lighting, stained glass panels & botanical frames. We have matching hanging terrariums, perfect for us plant lovers!

Firefly Designs - super cool prints & witty cards for all occasions. Proud owner of a gorgeous Fox print!

Ballyshane Irish Wood Design - gorgeous wooden chopping boards & cheese boards made using locally sourced Irish Hardwoods.

Hewn Spoons - we'll have one of everything please! Simply beautiful hand carved spoons, coffee & flour scoops.

Until next time,

M&K xx
